Planning Board Wants a Say in Labouré's Future if It Isn't a School
303 Adams St · Planning Board · Oct 27, 2026

The Planning Board plans to draft comments Nov 4 on a proposed group to plan Labouré's future if it isn't a school.
- No vote yet: the Planning Board discussed the Select Board's proposed 303 Adams St advisory group on Oct 15 without voting. Members moved their next meeting from Nov 5 to Nov 4 to draft comments for the Select Board.
- The proposal: Select Board member Peter Obersheimer's draft charge would set up a group to weigh other uses, finances, public input and possible development or resale if Labouré isn't picked for a school. On Oct 6 the Select Board sent it to the Planning Board and the planning director for comment and agreed to revisit it after hearing back.
- Too soon: one member called the group premature, as that member had at the Select Board's Oct 6 public comment. Land use, zoning, outreach and development are already the Planning Board's job, the member said, and the board was not consulted on the charge.
- Plan now: another member said voters need to see a plan before Dec 15, and put the cost of holding the site while it is studied at about $1M a year: $445,000 in yearly costs from the town's presentation plus about $500,000 in loan interest, by the member's own estimate.
- Common ground: several members said the Planning Board should be at the center of any such planning. One called the Select Board's version a first draft and another brought a fuller planning process of their own.
- Next: Planning Board comments Nov 4, then the Select Board takes the group up again. Voters decide the $11.75M purchase in a Dec 15 debt exclusion, about $130 a year on the average single-family tax bill.
- Background: Town Meeting voted 168-45 on Oct 19 to buy the closed college campus. The Select Board expects a decision on the school site in summer 2027, its Oct 6 minutes say.
