Rowing Club Seeks Town Help to Buy Dexter Southfield's Boat House
Milton Landing · Community Preservation Committee · Nov 1, 2026
The Milton Rowing Club wants Community Preservation money to buy Dexter Southfield's boat house at Milton Landing.
- The options: the boat house was built in 2024 with the town's help for over $500,000. Dexter Southfield moved its rowing to the Charles River this fall and decides this spring whether to stay. If it comes back, the fallback is a $238,000 tent with no engineered floor or changing rooms.
- Why: about 40 high school and 15 adult rowers keep 14 boats outdoors. Winter storage in Rhode Island costs $8,000 a year.
- Questions: committee members asked whether a tent is permanent enough for preservation money and whether the town would lease the spot beyond five years. Little money is left after the Tucker playground grant, one noted.
- Next: no decision was made Oct 28. Members want the school's answer before the Town Meeting warrant is set. The committee meets Nov 2 and Dec 15.
