Milton School Committee Sets What It Wants in Its Next Superintendent
Townwide · School Committee · Nov 1, 2026

Milton's School Committee unanimously approved the profile that will screen superintendent applicants, who have until Nov 24 to apply.
- What it asks: an experienced superintendent or central office leader, strong on budgets and teaching, who builds trust, serves every student, including in special education, and holds or can get a superintendent's license.
- Oct 28 edits: members struck "five-year" from the strategic plan item and reworded the last to "appreciation of Milton's character and understanding of Massachusetts public education." Bullets replaced numbers so no trait reads as ranked.
- How it was built: the search firm HYA drafted it from sessions with 75 people, Sept 17 to Oct 6, and 548 survey responses, Oct 3 to 23.
- Next: from December, a selection committee reviews applications and interviews HYA's semifinalists in private. It includes a Select Board member, the teachers' union president, the Milton High principal, the student services director, parent and community group members, a Milton Foundation for Education representative and three School Committee members.
