Milton High Field Lights Quoted at $221,565, Down From $450,000
Milton High School · Community Preservation Committee · Nov 1, 2026
The town asked for community preservation money to relight Milton High's Brooks Field, and committee members asked who else will pay.
- Cost: Musco quoted $221,565 for LED fixtures on the 1996 poles, which passed inspection. A year ago the town carried $450,000 to replace everything. The ask stays at $250,000 to cover price changes.
- Why: crews were called out 21 times during games in three years, the town's interim facilities director told the Community Preservation Committee on Oct 28. He cited half the light spill toward neighbors and 40% less energy. The field is used too little for a state energy grant.
- Concerns: members asked why the schools' capital budget or the boosters, who paid for the original lights, aren't contributing. The schools' capital request also holds $250,000 for the lights, still before the Warrant Committee. Another member raised dark-sky lighting practices.
- Next: no decision yet. The committee hears five other applications Nov 2.
