Milton Schools Need $1.6M More Than the Town Plans to Give
Townwide · Budget Coordination Committee · Nov 5, 2026
Milton's schools expect to need about $1.6 million more next year than the town plans to give them, school officials told a town-school budget committee Oct 30.
- The gap: The town plans a 3.5% increase in the school budget for the year starting July 2027. School officials said keeping today's staff and programs would cost about 6% more, and they are trimming that to about 5.5%. That still leaves 2 percentage points, about $1.6 million, above the town's figure. No vote was taken.
- Why: School officials pointed to rising costs such as fuel and bus contracts. They said the gap remains after two years of school budget cuts.
- Next: School officials plan to share an updated budget when the School Committee and Select Board finance committees meet jointly Nov 6.
