Milton Matched the State on 8 Ballot Questions, but Backed Smaller House Lots
Townwide · Election · Nov 5, 2026
Milton went the same way as the statewide vote on eight of the nine ballot questions in its unofficial Nov 3 count. The exception may be smaller house lots: Milton said yes, while the state count, still open, leans no.
- Question 7, house lots: Milton voted yes 6,669 to 6,477 (50.7%) on letting single-family homes be built on 5,000-square-foot lots with public water and sewer. Statewide it was 49.4% yes with about 95% counted and not yet called. Five Milton precincts voted yes (1, 2, 4, 4A and 10) and six voted no.
- Question 9, gun law: Milton voted 10,281 to 2,972 (77.6%) to keep the 2024 firearms law, the widest gap from the state. Statewide it was about 67%, and the law is projected to stay.
- The other seven: yes on public records (Q1, 87.5% in Milton), public defender unions (Q2, 67.5%), Election Day registration (Q4, 58.8%) and the conservation fund (Q6, 59.9%). No on one all-party primary (Q3, 38.5% yes), the state revenue limit (Q5, 45.5% yes; not called, but its backers conceded) and ending retail marijuana sales (Q8, 28.1% yes, against about 24% statewide).
- Races: Governor Maura Healey and Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll won Milton 8,816 to 4,128 over Minogue and Oliver. Sen. Ed Markey won 8,968 to 3,694 over John Deaton.
- Next: these are unofficial counts, and the state certifies results later. Milton votes again Dec 15 in the debt exclusion vote on borrowing for the Labouré purchase.
