Milton Gives Up Heat-Pump Grant, Council on Aging Keeps Gas Heat
Milton Council on Aging · Climate Action Planning Committee · Nov 2, 2026
Milton gave up a state grant for heat pumps at the Council on Aging and will put in new gas furnaces instead.
- Attic: roof trusses in the attic make the system a poor fit. The building gets gas furnaces for heat and air-source heat pumps for cooling.
- New buildings: Member Hale Smith wrote to the Select Board about 6,000 gallons of propane stored at the 582 Blue Hill Ave construction site. The board licensed it Oct 6 as temporary winter heat for construction, to be removed by May 1.
- Policy idea: Member Arthur Doyle proposed recommending a policy to the Select Board so energy sources come up when projects are first filed, and will research other towns. Others doubted the committee has the bandwidth. No vote was taken.
- Next: Mueller is expected at the committee's November meeting to explain the attic problem. An announcement on the town's Climate Leader Communities application is pending.
