Heat Pump Filings Hit a Record as Gas Permits Stay Near a Low

More Milton homeowners are filing for heat pumps than ever, while gas permits are down by about a third since 2022.
- Heat pumps: 82 filings so far this year mention heat pumps or mini-splits, the most for these months since records start in 2010. Last year had 61 by this point; 2016 had 11.
- Gas: 228 gas permits through Oct 21, down from 354 at this point in 2022. Last year was lower still, at 216.
- Electrical: 732 electrical permits, the most for these months since at least 2010.
- Solar: filings mentioning solar fell to 89 from 195 at this point last year, after the federal 30% homeowner solar tax credit ended for systems installed after Dec 31, 2025.
- How we counted: Milton permit filings from Jan 1 to Oct 21 of each year. Heat pump and solar counts are filings whose descriptions mention them, so they are a floor, not a full count.
