Canton Ave Median Is Being Priced as Neighbors Press for Slower Traffic
Canton Ave · Oct 13, 2026 · Select Board
After a crash and weeks of speeding complaints, Milton is pricing a permanent median on Canton Avenue at Dollar Lane.
- Median and crosswalk: designs for the Dollar Lane median are done and being priced, Town Administrator Nick Milano told the Select Board Oct 13. The town is also working with neighbors and the Eustis Estate on a new crosswalk nearby.
- Why now: Upper Canton Avenue residents told the board on Oct 6 and Oct 13 that speeding remains a persistent danger, citing a recent crash in which a car left the road and hit a fence. They asked for quick fixes while long-term plans are studied. The town is looking at a guardrail there and at more signs and pavement markings.
- More studies: engineers Tighe & Bond will study traffic and pedestrian safety on Central Ave near Turner's Pond, Brush Hill Road and Canton Ave. Toole Design, which runs the townwide traffic calming plan, is due to report in the coming weeks.
- Next: Toole Design's recommendations, and the price of the median. The town's traffic calming survey stays open through November.
- Background: In early October the town won a $500,000 state grant to design water main, roadway and possible signal upgrades on Canton Ave between Guild Road and Reedsdale Road.
